Ritchie Brothers (Scotland) Ltd Awarded Best Roads
Contractor 2006
As part of the West Lothian Council Considerate Contractors Scheme,
contractors have been recognised for their good works on roads across West
Lothian.
West Lothian Council was the first local authority in Scotland to launch a
partnership scheme with all contractors working in the area.
A total of 42 contractors were assessed under the scheme and the awards were
handed over by Provost Joe Thomas at a special ceremony. Ritchie
Brothers (Scotland) Ltd were awarded Best Roads Contractor in
recognition of the high standard of service and quality of workmanship.
"The Considerate Contractor scheme has been a great success,"
said Provost Joe Thomas. "Voluntary codes of practice help to ensure that
inconvenience and disruption to residents, businesses and road users is kept
to a minimum.
"The scheme co-ordinates all kinds of work on the public road network
and helps improve road safety. The support of contractors is absolutely vital
to the success of the scheme."
Council Leader Graeme Morrice added: "Over the last two years we have
invested more than £36 million on roads and footpaths, more that £6.6
million on lighting and nearly £7 million on structures.
"The continuing support of contractors is essential to help us carry
out such an extensive programme of improvements to the benefit of the people
of West Lothian."
